The Bridge — Numbers In, Numbers Out
Every instrument before it narrated the wheel; the Bridge asks your hands to compute with it. Three derivations carried from the turn-counting to the number — the fringe, the lean, the drift aloft — each one set beside the measurement that already exists. You supply the inputs; the calculus supplies the outputs; the laboratory record supplies the verdict.
The critique arrived from outside, and it was kept: a wheel that only narrates is scaffolding. Feynman’s arrows earned their permanence because a motivated reader could actually compute with them — the metaphor was load-bearing. The Bridge is the crossing the critique asked for. It is not a number in the roster; it stands between the instruments, and it carries.
Five rules, all measured physics: the clock ν = mc²∕h, the count on the chart λ = h∕p, the agreement of whole turns, the thinned count, the lean. Three benches where they bear real weight. On the first, the fringe: Jönsson’s electrons, Zeilinger’s neutrons and Arndt’s fullerenes, each landing on Δy = λL∕d — set the voltage, the doors, the wall, and drag the point to watch the two counts fall in and out of step. On the second, the lean: Eddington’s 1.75″ at the grazed Sun, drawn beside the half-count trap — time-thinning alone gives 0.87″, and the measurement is what closes that door. On the third, the thinned count itself: Pound–Rebka’s tower at 2.46 × 10⁻¹⁵, and the ledger aloft — the ISS clock losing 25 μs a day, the GPS clock gaining 38.5, the crossover at one and a half Earth radii, read off a live curve.
Nothing proposed, everything re-read — and the Open Flags raised in the annex, including the one that stays up: re-derivation is not discovery. The bridge holds because it is walked. Numbers in, numbers out.
The page separates its claims: established — the Compton clock, λ = h∕p from electrons to 25,000-amu molecules, the measured fringe spacings, light deflection to one part in 10⁴, the rate shift from 22.5 m down to one millimetre, the GPS correction running for four decades; interpretation — mass as tempo, the wavelength as the count laid on the chart, interference as the agreement of two counts, gravity as the thinning of the count, lensing as light leaning toward the thin count — no equation altered by the reading, which is the point and the price; open — the ideal-door and weak-field limits stated, the half-count trap carried in the open, and the standing flag: every output equals the standard prediction, by construction. The reading computes; it does not yet predict anew.
